The specifics of what xAI will bring to the table remain undisclosed. The official website remains cryptic, yet a Twitter Spaces chat is set for this Friday, July 14, inviting the public to pose questions to the team.
Hints on the website suggest a future product or service might be linked to generative AI. The team, comprising former engineers from tech giants like Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and Tesla, has contributed to significant AI advancements, including the creation of significant large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4.
Musk appears to have plans for a generative AI with a strong focus on safety. Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, he has been an outspoken critic of it and its developer, OpenAI, along with similar systems. He even co-signed a letter in March 2023 requesting a global pause on AI model training to implement “safety protocols” and limit misinformation.
